Unbelievable. Somehow we've managed to get to the start line without any disasters. Behind us are the traumas of quitting our job (Mands), trying to put all our business ducks in a row (Gus), leaving the only school he's ever been at (Max), and having to put a brave face on the fact that he has another whole six weeks before he can join us (Ben). Ahead of us are six months of adventure on our route from Seattle up to Alaska, down to Los Angeles, across the equator to Brazil and then on down to the icy wastes of Patagonia. We can't wait to be going!
In London now for a brief catch of our breath, and then we fly to our first stop, Minneapolis, on Monday for a week of canoeing in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. Meanwhile, back home in Zimbabwe the dogs are already pining, Kasuku the parrot has moved in temporarily with Juliet and Tim, and Jeffrey the donkey remains sublimely unmoved by it all. Jake, sadly, won't be joining us, as he's on his own adventure in Brazil now and starts uni at Oxford Brookes in the UK in September.
Our last night in London will be spent, fittingly, with Robert and Nicky, with whom we travelled on our last 6 month adventure through Africa (Jangano 2009). And then, 07.45 Monday morning, the journey begins…...
